Our key Role

OUR KEY ROLE

The priority role of the KZNCC is that of servant leadership: facilitating ecumenical relationships with Church leaders, member Churches and member organisations, drawing on the strengths of each grouping and helping to respond to new challenges as these emerge. The KZNCC has a particular responsibility for provincial matters and has developed expertise in this field so that it can provide an effective service to ecumenical structures in all parts of the province. Particular attention is given to helping the Church in each region identify and understand priority social issues and respond effectively to these. This involves encouraging the sharing of ecumenical resources so that the areas of greatest need can be served.

OUR STRATEGY

In order to carry out its key role of servant leadership, the KZNCC meets regularly with its member Churches and organisations and consults them in the process of planning our ecumenical work. We keep abreast of new trends in the Churches and ecumenical movement generally, including those Churches that are not at present part of our fellowship. Ongoing research in collaboration with local tertiary institutions and seminaries helps us to constantly refine our strategies and align our work more closely to that of our member Churches and organisations.

OUR WORK WITH SENIOR CHURCH LEADERS

There is a well-developed tradition in KwaZulu-Natal of ecumenical organisations working closely with senior Church leaders to strengthen the ecumenical movement. The KZNCC is committed to providing opportunities for meeting such leaders for prayer, spiritual and theological reflection and focussing on priority social issues, to enable them to be a united group, active and visible, pastoral and prophetic.
